Ythan APR

Nothing beats getting up on a sunday morning to go racing. Mind you, thats about the only thing that gets me up on a sunday morning! Apart from maybe the Australian Grand Prix.
So anyway, getting to Tarves football ground in plenty of time was a relative luxury for me and with all the pre-race thoughts that it was to be Petter Ettles or Will Crawfords race to loose, anothe r20 or so it seemed top guys turn up to spoil the show! Most notable Tony Hay (Square Wheels) and eventual winner.
With a reasonable amount of warm-up done it was time to endure some suffering, and there was plenty to be done, I was in group 2, which was a fair enough group for me to start in, with Mark Tandy, Greg Quinn (both Deesidee) and Grant MacIntosh (Dundee Wheelers) in my group. We worked ok, more leg-breaking should someone not peel off the front easily, but we got 1 2/3s of a lap done before we got swept up by group 3,4 and 5 which must have been something like 25 riders strong. This was with 2 full laps to go!
To keep a winded story short(ish) i achieved 1 full lap with the bunch going tooth and nail to bring back either attacking riders, or just going round a corner. Anyhow it was devastatingly fast, with riders such as Alister Watt (Granite City RT), Tom Barratt (Deeside) and Tony Hay (Square Wheels) dictating the pace. I only lost ability to hold the wheel (indeed Callum Smith's (Deeside)) on the finish line with 1 full lap left. I cant recall how long 1 lap of that course is, maybe 9 or 10 miles but it takes FOR-EVER! on your own. I got to the finishline, covered in snot, dried, salty sweat and with my water bottles stuck to the bottle cages such as the stick sollution im consuming mid-race to keep me hydrated and cramp free. Talking about cramp that the first non-HC race ive done recently (within 8 or 9 months anyway) that i HAVN'T cramped. so horray for me! I Won the group (2) prize for beating all the aforementioned group mates to the line. A lot of positives to take from that.

Ythan APR

the Ythan APR is the next race on the calendar, starting at 9am at the Tarves FC grounds and completing the 'usual' APR course like in previous years 2 and a bit times. I think i feel stronger, but the morning will be the telling time. I set off in group 2, so its very likely we will get caught by group 3 who are setting off 2 minutes behind us, of course te aim of an Australian Pursuit Race is to get to the finish line first having been handicapped in accordance to your strengths (or weaknesses!) Its this sunday so i dare say I'll write a report come some time afterwards.

Culloden APR

"Hi,
Havnt been availiable, well, the PC hasnt been available to make an update from. The time has passed and as were closer to the Ythan APR ill just sum up the Culloden APR.
Stayed in my group (g3) for 4 full laps (of 5) g4 and 5 went screaming past, and took our group with them, i hung on for about 1/2 a mile, but i wasnt strong from the start so i got dropped at the hairpin to start the final lap. Once i was out the back with Calum Cowie (Deeside) i cramped. 10 riders passed me in total (all remnants from other groups, so i finished 20th.

Ive had some good rides in te Deeside Chaingangs, (all with te Cervelo soloist alloy bike) but not quite got the perfect hardware on it, but thatll come, (with all the volcanic ash, the UK is a bit dry of parts).

Id like to think im getting the miles in so only time will tell if these miles are any better than last years..."
